Artist Biography – Adam Scudder
Opifex Ligni Esse: to be a woodworker, to create with wood. Adam Scudder is a third generation craftsman, born and raised on a small family farm in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York.
After taking a Fine Woodwork course at the North Bennet Street School of Boston he went through SUNY Delhi’s Cabinetry program. Adam worked with a company building and installing custom cabinetry in Manhattan before he went to The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockland, Maine for an intensive furniture making program. Adam completed the Delhi Carpentry program then spent a couple years in Huntington on Long Island, working in high end cabinet shops.
Adam Scudder now works out of his own studio furniture shop upstate where he’s known to build anything, so long as it’s wood. Custom work can require innovative solutions and nontraditional materials to meet design criteria.
Adam’s signature furniture can be described as a blend of Shaker and Arts and Crafts with an Asian influence.
